Research Management Review

Welcome to the Research Management Review (RMR) Online! As the scholarly journal for the National Council of University Research Administrators, the RMR is concerned with the broad range of issues affecting the administration of research and the changing research environment at the national and international levels. The RMR provides a forum for the dissemination of knowledge about the study and practice of the research administration profession. The current issue is member-only access but all archive issues are open to the public and accessible online.

Call for Articles

The current call for articles invites manuscripts to be submitted. The priority deadline for submissions for the next issue is October 31, 2024.
If you have any questions please contact RMR Editor Aimee Kendall Roundtree at akr@txstate.edu

Author Instructions

The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) welcomes contributions of original and thoughtful manuscripts to the Research Management Review (RMR) covering national or international issues and aspects of research administration. We are interested in publishing different methodologies including qualitative (literature reviews, focus groups, enthnography, etc.), quantitative (content analysis, survey studies, etc.) and mixed methods approaches, among others in one of the following formats:

Articles

Articles are full-length research/technical papers of value and interest to the journal readership. They must be original reviews of past practice, present information of current interest, or probe new areas and generally include the following sections:

  • Introductions that briefly present the topic, thesis statement, and advance organizer of the article.
  • Literature reviews that summarize and evaluate existing research on the subject matter.
  • Methods sections that describe what was done to answer the research question and how it was done, how results were analyzed, and what theoretical framework organized the work.
  • Results/findings sections that report the findings of your study based upon the information gathered as a result of the methods.
  • Discussion sections share the larger implications of the research based on the results, including their relationship to pre-existing literature.
  • Conclusions/implications sections that summarize the impact and limitations of the research, as well as implications for future work.

Notes

Notes are short research/technical papers that present original, practical information. They can be adaptations of NCURA conference presentations. They might report preliminary or partial results of research or concisely reported final research results presented at conferences.

Forums

Forums are thought-provoking opinion pieces or essays founded in evidence and facts on a topic of general interest and relevance to the readership of the journal. The purpose of a forum is to stimulate discussion.

Case Studies

Case studies describe a method or application that illustrates a new or existing principle or presents an innovative way to solve a problem. Ideally, results should have broad implications and not be specific to only the case presented.

Book Reviews

Book reviews evaluate new books whose content is relevant to the field of research administration. They summarize the book and highlight its strengths and weaknesses. They identify the book's purpose and audience.
Note on format: The first few sentences of a book review contains the following information: book title, author(s)/editor(s), publication year, publisher and publisher address, ISBN, price in U.S. dollars, and total number of pages. The reviewer’s name and affiliation must also be provided.

**Authors are required to identify the type of manuscript (e.g., case study, article, note) when submitting manuscripts to the RMR for publication consideration**

Manuscript Submissions

We accept submissions in electronic format. Electronic submissions should be emailed as one Word document file, along with any corresponding graphic files, to RMR Editor Aimee Kendall Roundtree at akr@txstate.edu.  Submissions should include an email message or a cover letter that contains the author’s e-mail address, physical address and daytime phone number.  Receipt of submissions will be acknowledged via e-mail.

Manuscript Review

Each manuscript submitted will be reviewed by the RMR Editorial Board.  Reviews generally will be completed within 2-4 weeks of manuscript submission.  A decision to accept or reject a submission will then be communicated to the corresponding author via email.
