NCURA Global Study Visits offer structured opportunities to learn from research administrators around the world and to build institutional partnerships aligned with your organization’s international collaboration goals.

Study visits can be organized around two primary program areas:

  • Research Administration Study Visits
  • Research Partnership Study Visits

Research Administration Study Visits

Research Administration Study Visits are tailored to your institution’s needs and provide an opportunity to visit international partner institutions to learn directly from their research administration offices. This option may be particularly valuable for:

  • U.S. institutions seeking to strengthen capacity for international research collaborations
  • International institutions seeking to strengthen capacity for collaboration with U.S. partners

Research Partnership Study Visits

Research Partnership Study Visits are also tailored to your institution’s needs and offer a structured approach to understanding a local research ecosystem and identifying appropriate collaborators. This option may be particularly valuable for:

  • U.S. institutions seeking international research partners (institutional and PI-level)
  • International institutions seeking U.S. research partners (institutional and PI-level)

Program Length and Engagements

A study visit can range from a few days to two weeks, depending on the scope of the requested visit and your institution’s objectives. During the visit, delegations may have opportunities to meet with:

  • Research institution leadership
  • Research administrators and principal investigators from U.S. and international institutions
  • Local research ecosystem stakeholders (universities, labs, and innovation actors)
  • Local funding agencies
  • Local science diplomacy networks

Global Training Component

NCURA Global Study Visits typically include a 1–2 day training component focused on research administration and international partnerships. Example topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Pre- and post-award administration for international research projects and partnerships
  • Funding opportunity identification and positioning
  • Science diplomacy
