NCURA Magazine - Copy Editor

 

DESCRIPTION OF COPY EDITOR POSITION:
The NCURA Magazine is the primary instrument for keeping the membership informed of news and items of interest within NCURA and in the profession of research administration. It is also emerging as a forum for discussions and debates about policies and regulations affecting the conduct of academic research.  The Copy Editor is an individual with excellent writing and editing skills. These volunteers also ensure that each sentence is easy to read and that concepts expressed are in a logical, sequential manner.

DURATION: Two years.

A. Function of Position Copy Editors of the Magazine are responsible to review articles for correct grammar, syntax, punctuation, spelling, and overall readability is concise and consistent. In addition, they should ensure that articles are using standard APA format and factually correct. References should use endnotes (not footnotes) and in-text citations should use correct APA formatting. Copy editors are part of the article review process and are responsible to review article submissions after they have been reviewed and edited by Contributing Editors as well as Co-Editors. Copy Editors work closely with Co-Editors, Senior Editor and Executive Editor in order to ensure the best final version of articles.

B. Time Commitment  Approximately four (4) to six (6) hours per issue (six (6) issues per year) is devoted to Magazine responsibilities.

C. Qualifications/Requirements – Knowledge of research administration issues, APA Publication format, and excellent writing and editing skills. The Copy Editor must also be able to adhere to production schedule timelines.

E. Training and Support – Support is available from the Co-Editor, Senior Editor, Executive Editor, and NCURA staff.
