Tommy Coggins is the Director of Sponsored Awards Management and Research Compliance at the University of South Carolina (USC). Tommy has been involved in research administration for over 30 years. He possesses a wealth of experience and knowledge in all facets of the field with special expertise in the area of research compliance, including regulations related to research involving human subjects and animals. Tommy currently serves as the Institutional Official for USC’s programs for human subject protection and animal care. As the Director of Research Compliance, he is responsible for developing policies and implementing procedures related to conflict of interest and research misconduct, including serving as USC’s Research Integrity Officer.

A member of NCURA since 1980, he has served in a variety of NCURA governance positions, including Secretary, Director, and Chair of the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee. He also has been an active participant at the regional level serving as Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, and chair of numerous committees. Tommy served as faculty for NCURA’s traveling Fundamentals workshops and is a frequent presenter at both regional and national meetings.
