Select Committee on Global Affairs (SCGA)- Member

Description:

The SCGA is NCURA's select committee responsible for assisting, advocating, and advancing NCURA’s global strategic agenda and initiatives.  The committee’s responsibilities include global research educational programming, the various Fellowship Programs, serving as NCURA’s global ambassadors, and advocacy for the International Region. 

DURATION:
Two year term

  1. Function of Position - To provide guidance and oversight in achieving NCURA’s global strategic agenda and initiatives. This includes:  (1) the development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of all global educational programming including faculty selection; (2) overseeing the NCURA’s Fellowship Programs (ARMS, EARMA, Global, SARIMA, etc.) including application evaluation and selection; (3) serving as NCURA’s global ambassadors to communicate with non-US visitors and organizations; (4) providing direction on communication between the International Region, Global Collaborate Community, and the overall NCURA membership; and (5) advocating and assisting the International Region in program development and outreach (as needed). 
  2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities & Time Commitment – The SCGA will meet monthly via telephone conference call and on an as-needed basis. In addition, much of its work will be accomplished through e-mail and other electronic means.  Approximately two hours per week, averaged across a year, can be anticipated. 
  3. Qualifications/Requirements
  4. Knowledge and/or Skills - An understanding of NCURA's primary mission as a professional development organization, and a strong commitment to NCURA’s leadership role in the global research management community.

    Education and/or Experience - Prior experience with university research administration issues, particularly of a global or transnational nature, is required. Prior service on NCURA national or regional committees or taskforces also highly desirable.

    Communication and/or Collaborative Skills – Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in a virtual team environment, ability and desire to communicate NCURA’s mission and goals effectively, and cultural competence in working with people from different backgrounds.

  5. Training and Support - The Chair of SCGA and NCURA staff provide necessary orientation and support to SCGA members.
  6. Additional Information (Benefits, Cost Reimbursement, Travel Requirements, etc) - Travel for SCGA business is reimbursed by NCURA at times other than the Annual Meeting.
