The Country Profile Guidebook is an initiative by NCURA's Select Committee on Global Affairs, to build a compendium of information on the research administration ecosystem of different countries. Below you will find links to PDF documents providing the overviews by country.
International collaboration in research is vital for excellence in innovation, knowledge sharing, gaining access to data, tapping into grant funding, and to promote ethical standards. In addition, international partnership is extremely important for addressing global problems with no borders such as infections diseases, climate change, and issues facing vulnerable target groups, (e.g., refugees, victims of natural disasters, etc.) and improving the lives of the less fortunate. To conduct this valuable projects, researchers require funding from various national and international funders which impose specific terms and conditions on how to manage the research funding and its various regulatory and funder policy requirements. However, the lacking, and often unequal, landscape of research administration (RA) can be a hinderance for international collaborations targeted towards solving the large global problems. Thus, the need for organizations to have trained research administrators who have access to professional development, a joint platform, and information on the research landscape in other countries is essential in developing and sustaining research collaborations
Within this context, a country guidebook on research administration that outlines the RA systems including the landscape of regulation, funding sources, best practices, etc. will act as a vital resource to learn and discuss about common issues in research administration and regulatory compliance and of improvements in their research administration infrastructure. The guidebook will act as a reference for host institutions, research administrators/managers, and their researchers to gain an understanding of the scope, limitation, and opportunities of international collaboration in research and sound research management processes.
