The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) is dedicated to advancing the profession of research administration while upholding core values of integrity, excellence, service, collegiality, transparency, and inclusiveness. NCURA also has a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. To fulfill its mission and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion while upholding its core values, NCURA has established five guiding principles.
1. Integrity in Diversity and Inclusion: NCURA maintains the highest ethical standards in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion as integral components of its operations. Upholding integrity ensures that policies, practices, and decisions align with principles of respect for diversity and fairness.
2. Excellence through Diversity and Collaboration: NCURA recognizes diversity as a catalyst for excellence, valuing the varied perspectives and experiences of its members. Collaboration among diverse stakeholders fosters innovation, enhances program effectiveness, and drives organizational success.
3. Service with Inclusivity and Transparency: NCURA is committed to serving its members with inclusivity and transparency, ensuring equitable access to resources, opportunities, and support for professional growth. Operating with transparency builds trust and accountability, fostering a culture of openness and inclusivity.
4. Education on Structural Oppression and Historical Context: NCURA acknowledges and addresses historic and ongoing structural oppression within higher education and research. By educating members on historical context and systemic barriers, NCURA empowers them to recognize and challenge inequalities and advocate for positive change.
5. Integration of Inclusive and Equitable Practices: NCURA integrates inclusive and equitable practices into its policies, procedures, and programs to foster diversity throughout the organization. By providing training and resources, NCURA equips and empowers its leaders to regularly assess and update its practices towards ensuring alignment with principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
These guiding principles reflect NCURA's unwavering commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the research administration profession, guided by its mission, core values, and dedication to service to its members and the broader community.
In the development of these Guiding Principles, the 2024 Select Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has referenced NCURA’s:
● Mission Statement
● Core Values
● Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
● Statements released on June 4, 2020 and March 19, 2021
Each member of the 2024 SCDEI believed that these Guiding Principles provide a framework by which the Council can uphold its commitments and demonstrate our core values in a way that fosters diversity, increases equity, and creates a culture of inclusion.
