Departmental Research Administration Workshop Faculty

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Workshop faculty are responsible for teaching NCURA's Departmental Research Administration (DRA) workshop. This 2.5 day workshop is intended for those administrators who work at the department and/or college level.

DURATION: 3 year appointment (based on continuing positive evaluations).

  1. Function of Position - To teach the departmental research administration workshop and serve as an ambassador of the research administration profession and NCURA.
  2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities & Percentage of Time Devoted - The workshop examines the foundations of research administration in the context of departmental administration – the transactional level. The program will concentrate on applying best practices to a department administrator’s day-to-day activities. The workshop is team taught by four faculty - two departmental and two central. Each workshop is 2.5 days in length. Teaching load is approximately 2 sessions per year. All faculty also are involved in the annual update and review of materials.
  3. Qualifications/Requirements
    1. Knowledge and/or Skills – Significant knowledge of departmental research administration issues (both from the central and departmental perspective) as well as the ability to serve effectively as a member of a four person team. Extensive effective presentation experience is necessary. Excellent facilitation and communication skills are required.
    2. Education and/or Experience - Expertise across the broad areas of departmental administration including pre-award, post-award, compliance, cost, and other areas of grants and contract development and research management. Candidates must regularly interact with faculty, researchers, university leadership; and have experience with committees, the federal government and auditors, to provide participants with real life experiences (read more).
    3. Be a current Regular member of NCURA.
    4. Have demonstrated leadership experience at the home institution.
    5. Have a minimum of 5 years experience in research administration.
  4. Training and Support - Veteran faculty, session team leader as well as the PDC chair and the NCURA staff provide necessary orientation and support. Attendance at an adult learning principles workshop and an observation of a full workshop are required.

    The opportunity to share your knowledge and serve as an ambassador of the organization and the research administration profession.
    You receive an honorarium for each session you teach. NCURA coordinates your hotel requirements and you are reimbursed for your travel expenses. All traveling workshop programming is under the auspices of the Professional Development Commitee.
