Neighborhood Program Committee
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The Vice Chair assists the Chair as directed by the Chair and performs the duties of the Chair when the Chair cannot. The Neighborhood Program Committee Vice Chair is nominated by the Neighborhood Program Committee, with appointment by the Professional Development Committee. Typically the Vice Chair will be appointed in the second year of service to Neighborhood Program Committee as Chair of a Neighborhood Subcommittee. The appointment will take place in September to allow for transition and continuity, particularly at the NCURA annual meeting.
DURATION:
The Vice Chair serves a one-year term and then succeeds to NPC Chair for another year term. This equates to a two-year term once appointed NPC Vice Chair.
- Function of Position - The NPC Vice Chair will be a Neighborhood Subcommittee Chair thus will serve as a member of the NPC and will oversee the operation of a particular topical Neighborhood.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities & % Time Devoted - The Vice Chair assists the Chair, as directed by the Chair and performs the duties of the Chair when the Chair cannot. The Vice Chair serves as a content manager and functional expert contributing to managing the resources of the neighborhoods. The Vice Chair works in concert with the Chair and the other NPC members to maintain and enhance the resources of the neighborhoods including the website, performing on campus electronic interviews, sponsoring chats and utilizing the listservs.
- Qualifications/Requirements
- Knowledge and/or Skills – should possess significant background and knowledge in the topical area of their Neighborhood and have a strong knowledge of the topical experts within their Neighborhood and in the external research community. They must be able to motivate others and encourage their creativity and vision. The Vice Chair must also be able to clearly articulate the needs of their Neighborhood, recognize areas of overlap, and be able to balance the needs of their Neighborhood with the needs of the other Neighborhoods and the overall organization.
- Education and/or Experience – No special education or experience is required, but significant experience is needed in the area of the Neighborhood. Experience working in a collaborative mode is also helpful.
- Training and Support - The Vice Chair is supported by guidance from the NPC Chair and the Professional Development Committee (PDC) as well as the NCURA office.
- Additional Information (Benefits, Cost Reimbursement, Travel Requirements, etc) - Travel costs associated with any meetings set for either the Neighborhood subcommittee or the NPC (other than the Annual Meeting) will be reimbursed.
