DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Serve as one of approximately 6 individuals charged with identifying and promoting the agenda of the Neighborhood Committee. Responsibilities of committee members include planning for and implementing the maintenance and ongoing enhancement of the neighborhood content, planning for site enrichment through expansion, and assisting the Neighborhood Program Committee (NPC) in coordination and development of the neighborhood infrastructure.

DURATION:
Staggered terms of service ranging from three months up to four years will be considered based on need of the committee and member preference.

  1. Function of Position - Serve as content managers and functional experts contributing and managing the resources of one of NCURA’s virtual topic-based neighborhoods.
  2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities & % Time Devoted - Committee members are responsible for the implementation of the maintenance and ongoing enhancement of their specific neighborhood, including planning for site enrichment through expansion and assisting the NPC in coordination and development of the Neighborhood infrastructure. Specific activities will include site maintenance (including identifying, locating and analyzing emerging material to determine if it should be added, determining how the site should be functionally organized, monitoring existing material to determine when it needs to be updated, replaced, or deleted, and removing outdated or inaccurate material.) In addition, responsibilities will include proposing to the NPC the addition of specific listservs and timetables, as well as polling the membership of the neighborhood on topics of mutual interest.
  3. The structure of this group has been designed to allow members to participate for varying amounts of time to fit their personal and professional schedules. During the appointment period mutually selected by the volunteer and the Chair, members are expected to be proactive in their pursuit of the functions of the committee described above, as they serve as the core individuals responsible for ensuring content accuracy and the usefulness of this critical tool. It is anticipated that this work will involve 2-4 hours a month.
  4. Qualifications/Requirements
    1. Knowledge and/or Skills – Significant knowledge of the topic area and of the major players or resources available in at least part of that arena. Analytical ability sufficient to assess materials to determine their overall usefulness to the community. Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact tactfully with authors or those who have submitted materials to help them understand why materials are being included or not as appropriate. Willingness to organize materials in ways that will be intuitive and useful to users having a broad range of skills and topical knowledge. The ability to envision the future to understand appropriate linkages and opportunities. Technical knowledge is not required, but an appreciation for the use of electronic tools and a willingness to work collaboratively is important.
    2. Education and/or Experience – No special education or experience is required, but significant experience or knowledge is needed in the area of the Neighborhood.
  5. Training and Support - Committee members will report to their Chair. The Committee is supported by guidance from the NPC and the PDC as well as the NCURA office.
  6. Additional Information (Benefits, Cost Reimbursement, Travel Requirements, etc) - Travel costs associated with any meetings set for the Committee (other than the Annual Meeting) will be reimbursed.
