DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Lead one of NCURA’s Neighborhoods, ensuring the appropriate design and implementation of a plan for its oversight and maintenance, and its coordination with other Neighborhoods and the Neighborhood Program Committee (NPC).

DURATION:
Two years, beginning with appointment.

  1. Function of Position - The Chair of each NCURA Neighborhood will serve as a member of the NPC and will oversee the operation of a particular topical Neighborhood.
  2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities & % Time Devoted - The Chair is responsible for overseeing the design of a plan to manage the Neighborhood content and maintenance, planning for site enrichment, and articulating the needs and recommendations of the Neighborhood to the NPC. The chair must also manage the appointment process for subcommittee members, including overseeing the Neighborhood volunteer “Bank” and identifying when it needs to be refreshed. Active oversight of committee progress in the area of site maintenance and expansion is required, including orchestrating the overall organizational structure of the Neighborhood and its resources; and assigning committee members to be responsible for content analysis and the addition, updating and deleting of resources. The chair is also responsible for developing a process to solicit the recommendations of the subcommittee in the areas of specific listservs and timetables that should be offered, and advancing these recommendations to the NPC.
  3. Qualifications/Requirements
    1. Knowledge and/or Skills – Chairs should possess significant background and knowledge in the topical area of their Neighborhood and have a strong knowledge of the topical experts within their Neighborhood and in the external research community. They must be able to motivate others and encourage their creativity and vision. Chairs must also be able to clearly articulate the needs of their Neighborhood, recognize areas of overlap, and be able to balance the needs of their Neighborhood with the needs of the other Neighborhoods and the overall organization.
    2. Education and/or Experience – No special education or experience is required, but significant experience is needed in the area of the Neighborhood. Experience working in a collaborative mode is also helpful.
  4. Training and Support - The subcommittee is supported by guidance from the NPC and the Professional Development Committee (PDC) as well as the NCURA office.
  5. Additional Information (Benefits, Cost Reimbursement, Travel Requirements, etc) - Travel costs associated with any meetings set for either the Neighborhood subcommittee or the NPC (other than the Annual Meeting) will be reimbursed.
