Financial Management Committee (FMC)

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The FMC is chaired by the Treasurer and shall consist of the following members: the incoming-treasurer, the immediate past treasurer, three at-large members, one of whom may be a non-NCURA member with financial expertise. The committee supports the Board with all financial activities.

DURATION:
2-year appointment, the members will have staggering terms

  1. Function of Position - The FMC is responsible for assisting the Treasurer in oversight of the Council's fiscal matters; developing long-range financial plans for the Council; reviewing the annual budget and making recommendations to the Board; assisting and working with the regional treasurers; and recommending to the Board an individual(s) to perform the annual audit and performing other functions as assigned by the Treasurer or Board.
  2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities & % Time Devoted - The committee will meet at least 2 times annually to complete the following: review the budget, select auditor, review financial statements and review the annual investment performance. In addition, the committee will meet with the regional treasurers at the annual meeting in November. The committee will conduct the majority of their activities by using e-mail listserv and conference calls.  Calls are monthly and ad-hoc as needed, normally one hour in duration.  Expect a time commitment of one hour per month in addition to two in-person meetings.
  3. Qualifications/Requirements
    1. Knowledge and/or Skills -The member is required to have knowledge in various fiscal activities in addition to an understanding of NCURA and its programs is expected.  A minimum of 5 years NCURA membership is required.
    2. Education and/or Experience – Accounting, Finance, or Economics degree, CPA, MBA are all preferred qualifications. Financial experience is mandatory to perform required tasks. Experience with investments, developing budgets and financial management issues are preferred
  4. Training and Support - The Treasurer and the National office finance staff will support the committee with all tasks and will provide all required training. The national office investment consultant will support the committee with investment activity.
  5. Additional Information (Benefits, Cost Reimbursement, Travel Requirements, etc) - All FMC mandatory travel to meetings not held in conjunction with other events/meetings will be reimbursed by NCURA.
