Framework and the Innovation Union
In response to the economic crisis, European research programmes are shifting markedly towards activities that lead directly to more innovation by European businesses. The European Commission’s proposal for a Common Strategic Framework underlines this trend.
They are hosting a one-day conference (June 1, 2011, Brussels, Belgium) for senior research leaders in Europe to discuss and address how the existing components of the Framework programme are shifting; whether the European Research Council, which was founded under Framework 7, will expand its share of the budget; and what the future holds next for Joint Technology Initiatives, European Innovation Partnerships and other mechanisms for enhancing industrial involvement in the next phase of the programme.
Already confirmed to speak are:
· Robert-Jan Smits, Director General, DG Research & Innovation, European Commission
· Dr Theodore Papazoglou, Head of Unit UNIT A1 – Support to the ERC Scientific Council
· Dr Jan van den Biesen, Vice President, Philips Research, Public R&D Programmes
· Prof Jerzy Langer, Foreign Secretary of Academia Europaea, Member of EURAB and former Science vice-minister in Poland
· Dr Piotr Swiatek, FP7 National Contact Point, Research Centre Juelich
As an attendee, you will:
· Develop crucial insights into what makes the Framework work
Gain unique access to important movers and shakers in European policy and funding
· Participate in detailed analyses of Europe’s innovation landscape
· Examine industry in Framework: comparing the needs of SMEs and major corporations
· Learn about the evolution of a simpler Framework
