Jim Barbret is currently the Associate Vice President for Research and Assistant Vice President for Finance at Wayne State University. He was brought in to lead the re-structuring of the research management infrastructure, combining offices previously under the direction of the Vice President for Finance, the Vice President for Research and the Dean of the School of Medicine. His organization currently has oversight more than $200 million of external funds.
During his tenure at WSU, Jim has been very active in the National Council of Research Administrators. He has delivered many sessions and workshops at both regional and national meetings. Additionally, Jim has been WSU’s primary representative to COGR and currently serves on the COGR Board.
Jim has over 25 years experience in the research administration field. Prior to joining WSU, he held key positions at the University of Michigan and Arizona State University.
