Barbara Cole is the Associate Vice President of Research Administration at the University of Miami. Over the past 30 years she has also served as the Director of the Office of Sponsored Research, Stanford University, Associate Vice President for Research Administration, Boston University and as Associate Controller at the University of Cincinnati.
Barbara has held a variety of oversight responsibilities for Grants and Contracts ranging from $200 million to $1 billion and has instituted policies and procedures for general accounting, payroll, accounting payable, budget and planning offices, compliance, business and research systems’ support as well as pre and post-award activities. Barbara has also been responsible for facilities and administrative (F&A) rates negotiations, fringe benefit rates calculations, space planning and service center oversight.
Graduating summa cum laude from the University of Cincinnati, she has been active in NCURA since 1986. She has been a frequent presenter in regional and national meetings, served as faculty for the Region I Fundamentals workshop, as well as the National Financial Research Administration and Sponsored Projects Administration II workshops. She was a Treasurer for Region IV, co-chair for the 2003 National Meeting, served on the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee, the Financial Management Committee, Board of Directors, and was the National Treasurer for the organization from 2008-2010.
