Tommy Coggins is the Director of Sponsored Awards Management and Research Compliance at the University of South Carolina (USC). He became the first Director of the Office of Research Compliance in 2001 after serving in a variety of positions in the USC Office of Sponsored Programs and Research. He recently returned to the broader field of research administration when he assumed the position of Director of Sponsored Awards Management in addition to his research compliance responsibilities.
Tommy has been involved in research administration for over 25 years and possesses a broad knowledge of the field with special expertise in the area of research compliance, including regulations related to research with human subjects, animals, and biohazardous materials. A member of NCURA since 1980, he has served in a variety of NCURA governance positions, including Secretary, Director, and Chair of the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee. He also has been an active participant at the regional level serving as Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, and chair of numerous committees. Tommy is a frequent presenter at both regional and national meetings.
