
Diane Barrett has been in research administration since 1983. She is the Associate Dean of Research in the School of Human Ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She most recently served as Assistant Director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at the UW, where she oversaw the Pre-award Services unit, which processes $1 billion in awards and over 4400 proposals annually. Besides proposal submission, Pre-award is responsible for all contract negotiations and award set-up. Before moving to RSP, Diane was the research administrator for the School of Nursing and the College of Letters and Science at UW-Madison.
Diane began her career in research administration as a Research Assistant at the newly-formed grants office at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. After a short stint writing development proposals for Carnegie Mellon University, she was hired to start the research office at Butler University in Indianapolis, a position she held for four years before moving to Madison in 1991.
Diane has given numerous workshops over the course of her career, including on-campus, NCURA regional, and NCURA national. A member of the inaugural class of the Leadership Development Institute, she has served in various capacities for Region IV, including Chair, and as a member of the NCURA Professional Development Committee. She served as co-chair of NCURA 52nd Annual Meeting in 2010 and currently serves on the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee.
