Barbara Cole is the Associate Vice President for Research Administration at Boston University. During her ten years with the University, she has served in the capacity of Director of Research Administration for the Boston University Medical Campus, Executive Director for Financials Affairs and the Assistant Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the Medical Campus prior to her appointment as the Associate Vice President for Research Administration. Prior to joining Boston University, Barbara was employed for fifteen years at the University of Cincinnati in varying capacities ranging from financial analyst, to Departmental administrator and Assistant Controller for Grants and Contracts.
In the variety of positions held at both Universities, Barbara has had oversight responsibilities of Grants and Contracts in excess of $300 million, budget oversight of an additional +$500 million and has instituted policies and procedures for general accounting , payroll, accounting payable, budget and planning offices, compliance, business and research systems’ support as well as pre and post-award activities. Barbara has also been responsible for facilities and administrative ( F&A) rates negotiations, fringe benefit rates calculations, space planning and service center oversight.
Graduating summa cum laude from the University of Cincinnati with a BBA she has been active in NCURA since 1986. She has been a frequent presenter in regional and national meetings, served as faculty for the Region I Fundamentals workshop, a co-chair for the 2003 National meeting, served on the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee, the Financial Mangement Committtee, the Board of Directors and served as Treasurer for Region IV.
