Karen Woodward Massey is Research Administration Services’ Director of Education and Outreach in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University. (fas.harvard.edu/research) As such, she helps lead efforts in sponsored research administration education at the departmental, school, and university level and constantly works to provide people with the skills, information, tools, and resources they need to do their jobs better. Karen became the Director of Education and Outreach in October 2009. Prior to that she was a Research Administration Services Finance and Education Specialist, the Harvard College Observatory Grants Manager, and a project coordinator for two major research projects at what is now the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
Karen is fortunate to have experienced firsthand the professionalization of research administration at Harvard and other universities. For this reason, she has a great interest in helping others to improve their performance and develop professionally. Her overall goals: to give research administrators the education, resources, tools, communication and leadership skills they need to be able to tackle any problem in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Karen also sits on the advisory committee, the spring meeting program committee, and chairs the curriculum committee for NCURA Region I.
