Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Just as quality research and scholarship call upon envisioning all of the potential outcomes, research administrators must also consider all of the possibilities. We need to consider faculty incentives for research activity, eRA, contracts, compliance, export controls, training, and a myriad of other issues… and then determine what offers the best probability for success in our own situation.

Our conference theme, “Envisioning the Possibilities,” evolves from our need to both serve and guide our institutions, and help prepare the way for the future. Whether we work for small institutions or large, private or public, central or departmental offices… we all face the same challenges as pre-award research administrators. The excellent program our committee has assembled for you will help you successfully navigate the current environment and plan for the future. The tracks for this conference include eRA, PUI, Departmental, Communication, Contracts and Compliance, and Senior-level issues. The assortment of workshops, senior leadership seminars, concurrent sessions, and discussion groups, in addition to the opportunity to network with your colleagues, will arm you with additional tools for success, help you to recharge, and “envision the possibilities” for your institution.

Los Angeles, California is one of the world’s centers of culture, science, technology, international trade and higher education. What an excellent location for this meeting as we envision the possibilities in this exciting area called Pre-Award Administration. The conference site, the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City, is located in the heart of the “Entertainment District.” The hotel is across from the main entrance of Universal Studios Hollywood and City Walk Entertainment Complex, which will provide terrific opportunities for leisure activities during your free time.

We look forward to seeing you on July 12-14 in Los Angeles!

Sincerely,

Pam Vargas & Dennis Paffrath, Conference Co-chairs
