Kelly Hochstetler accepted the position of Director, Office of Export Controls, at the University of Virginia (UVa) earlier this year. Previously, Kelly served as Sr. Research Compliance Officer for the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) where she developed and coordinated a wide range of research compliance programs, including export control. At UVa, Kelly serves as the primary institutional official responsible for the day-to-day management of the university’s export controlled activities. Her duties include performing reviews of proposals, award documents, non-disclosure documents, and other sponsorship or partnering agreements to identify potential export issues; providing training and guidance to university researchers and support staff; preparing license applications and other correspondence to regulatory agencies; and, working closely with in-house and outside counsel to effectively manage UAF’s export activities. Kelly received her doctorate in biological sciences from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Kelly has been a member of the NCURA Compliance Neighborhood Committee since 2007 and currently serves as committee chairperson.
