CHRISTA C. JOHNSON is Associate Dean for Research in the Graduate School at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). In this capacity she has the overall responsibility for administering SIUE's extramural and grant and contract programs, the state-supported organized research programs, internal research grant programs, and all areas of legal and ethical compliance. Christa serves on Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Institutional Review Board, HIPAA, Conflict of Interest, Institutional Biosafety Committee, Institutional Animal Care and Use, and Research Misconduct committees and programs.
As Associate Dean, Johnson also serves on the Graduate Council and manages the Graduate Council's review committees, including the Education and Research Policies (ERP) Committee and the Research and Projects Advisory Board. Johnson is also responsible for developing and administering the Graduate School's electronic support systems, and advises faculty and staff regarding intellectual property and industry/University agreements, patents, copyrights, licensing, liability, proprietary data, and publication. Johnson has been at SIUE since January, 2006.
Johnson holds a Ph.D. in Humanities and German Studies from Stanford University and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. She is an active researcher and teaches a broad range of courses in the areas of comparative literature, history, and cultural studies. Johnson has also served in a number of capacities for various professional organizations, including NCURA as an elected regional board member. She presents regularly at national and regional meetings covering a broad range of topics from pre-award research administration and regulatory compliance, to office management, volunteerism, and leadership. Christa has also been the recipient of a number of awards and fellowships, including the Whiting Dissertation Fellowship and the NCURA Region IV Kevin Reed Outstanding New Professional Award.
