Bruce Morgan started his research administration career in 1987 as Fiscal Officer of UCLA's Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. In 1991, he transferred to UC Irvine as a Contract and Grant Officer. Beginning in 1993, he held management positions of increasing responsibility within UC Irvine's Office of Research Administration, including ten years as Director of Sponsored Projects. In June 2005, Bruce transferred to UC Riverside to join the Office of Research as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer. In October 2009, he returned to UC Irvine as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research. In his current position, he is responsible for the overall direction and management of the Office of Research Administration, which includes Sponsored Projects, Human Research Protections, Research Assurances and Conflict of Interest. In addition, he is responsible for research administration data systems and training initiatives.
Bruce served four years as faculty for NCURA's Fundamentals of Sponsored Projects Administration workshop and is current teaching Sponsored Projects Administration II Workshop. He has also presented at NCURA regional and national meetings on topics such as electronic research administration issues, preparing proposal budgets, subawards and subrecipient monitoring, university/industry relations, negotiating research contracts with industry, intellectual property issues in sponsored projects administration, cost sharing, export controls, confidentiality issues in research administration, and the impact of federal regulations on the daily activities of university administrators. He has been a member of NCURA since 1994 and is currently serving on the NCURA Board of Directors.
