James Casey has been in research administration for 15 years and is presently Director of the Office of Contracts and Industrial Agreements at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where he is establishing the Contracts Office and increasing university partnerships with industry. Over his career he has worked at large research universities (University of Wisconsin-Madison, Northwestern University) as well as doctoral and masters-level universities (Marquette University, Bradley University). More recently he served as a Visiting Professor of Leadership at the Upper Iowa University campus in Hong Kong, China.

Jim is presently Senior Co-Editor of the NCURA Magazine, Chair of the International Neighborhood, member of the International Commission, member of the Professional Development Committee, and co-Chair of the International Research Collaborations Project at the Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable (GUIRR). In the past he represented Region 4 on the NCURA Board of Directors, served as editor of the Research Management Review, and was an NCURA delegate to the University-Industry Partnership Project at the GUIRR. He has written and presented extensively within and outside the field of research administration.

Jim holds a B.A., cum laude, in Political Science from UW-Whitewater, an M.A. in International Affairs from Marquette University, an M.P.A. in Urban Administration from the University of Dayton, and a J.D. in the University of Dayton School of Law, where he was a member of the Dayton Law Review. He previously practiced law in Wisconsin and has been a member of the Wisconsin Bar since 1990.
