The Coffee House had its beginnings in the spring of 2003, when incoming NCURA President Pat Fitzgerald got a note from Franc Lemire suggesting that the Annual Meeting needed a Monday night networking event following the dinner groups. His idea was provide meeting attendees with an opportunity to join in on group sing-alongs of popular folk and rock standards from the 60's and 70's in a relaxed setting reminiscent of the 60's Coffee Houses. From the early days as the NCURABLES (in 2003-2005) to the Grateful Deadlines of 2006 and beyond, some of the personnel may have changed, but the classic folk-rock sounds remain true to the genre and have improved with age!
The 2008 edition of the GDs will include original members Pat Fitzgerald (vocals and guitar), Mark Chisholm (drums) and Franc Lemire (vocals and guitar), along with talented newer members Roberta Truscello (vocals, piano and accordion), Andrew Malone (vocals, piano and bass), Sheila Doyle (electric violin) and Karen Woodward Massey (vocals and percussion).
The "Deadlines" plan a very special performance to highlight NCURA's 50th Annual meeting that will include a repertoire of tunes spanning the last five decades. Back by popular demand in our old Monday evening time slot, we hope you will join us for some great music and surprises as we celebrate NCURA's very special birthday!
